The crash happened at Monorierdo, about 40 kilometers south-east of Budapest. Faulty signals may have been the cause, MTI quoted a spokesman for Hungary's national railway MAV as saying. Several victims were critically injured when a local train struck the last car of an intercity train headed to the Hungarian capital from the eastern city of Debrecen, Hungary's MTI agency said.

The crash happened at Monorierdo, about 40 kilometers south-east of Budapest.

Faulty signals may have been the cause, MTI quoted a spokesman for Hungary's national railway MAV as saying.

Rescuers brought out several helicopters to get victims to hospitals, MTI reported.
