Russia won’t extradite ex-Yugoslav defense minister
MOSCOW -- Croatia has asked Russia for the extradition of former Yugoslav Defense Minister Veljko Kadijević.
“We sent an extradition request on behalf of the Justice Ministry, but we have not yet received an official answer,” Croatian Ambassador to Russia Božo Kovačević told Moscow new agency Interfax.
The ambassador acknowledged that extradition was almost impossible now in the wake of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s decree granting Kadijević Russian citizenship on August 13.
“I want to express my sadness that court proceedings against persons responsible for the most heinous war crimes perpetrated in Croatia cannot be held,” Kovačević stated.
