The Albanian prosecution says it will cooperate with the Hague should it wish to investigate Carla Del Ponte’s claims about the trade in human organs there. “The Albanian Prosecutor’s Office is prepared to cooperate with the Hague by offering help to judges coming to Albania, or by collecting additional information on the basis of which the authorities could start an investigation,” says the prosecution in a statement. Albanian prosecution agrees to cooperate However, the prosecution adds that “in former Chief Prosecutor Del Ponte’s book, there are no additional elements to what was presented to her in 2004 that would justify a new inquiry.” The investigation launched in Albania in 2004 by Hague Tribunal investigative judges in the region mentioned in the former prosecutor’s book did not reveal any new elements that could confirm the accusations against the Albanian side, the Prosecution reiterates. “At the end of the investigation, the judges came to the conclusion that the information concerning the alleged existence of prisons where doctors were said to have extracted human organs was not accurate,” the statement concludes.
