A representative of a Serb party in Croatia says they entered the new cabinet to ensure "normal life." That country's parliament last night unanimously voted in Ivo Sanader's new center-right government, dominated by his Croatian Democratic Alliance, HDZ, but also for the first time including one ethnic Serb. Serb becomes Croatia's deputy PM Slobodan Uzelac, of the Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS), has been appointed the deputy prime minister, in charge of regional development, renewal and return. Now SDSS vice-president Milorad Pupovac says his party, although ideologically center-left, "at this point and under these political circumstances" saw it as rational to join Sanader's cabinet and support reforms, and European integration. "Uzelac is an excellent representative who will do his job well, while I will continue to strengthen institutions of the Serb community in Croatia," he explained. Pupovac added that the process of return "will take time" and that the coalition agreement signed regulates many issues in this area. Pupovac, Sanader, in Croatian parliament last night (Tanjug)
