Five homes have been destroyed in a fire that spread near Lake Dorjan in Macedonia. The houses were all located in the Novdorjan tourist settlement, some 130 kilometers south of Skopje, reports say. The blaze was started by a truck that caught fire near Novdorjan. Although appeals for help were sent immediately, it took firefighters over an hour to arrive at the scene, during which time the flames spread quickly. Macedonian media say that 45 firefighters are now battling the flames. Local residents have joined in, while neighboring Greece also offered help. The military has not yet been engaged, although announcements said army helicopters would be sent.
