Vucic welcomed Fabrizi and wished him success in performing an important and responsible duty, stressing that Serbia saw full membership in the EU as one of its top foreign policy priorities, the agency said, quoting a statement issued by the Serbian Presidency.

"The perspective of full membership in the EU gives a strong impetus to the comprehensive reforms that we are carrying out, as well as the policy of reconciliation and regional cooperation in the Balkans," Vucic said, adding that he believed that the Italian diplomat would give an important contribution to negotiations on full membership with his experience, expertise and engagement.

Fabrizi "voiced his satisfaction at being accredited for service in Serbia and added that he had come with a feeling of strong responsibility for the office that he would perform, as well as that he knew very well how much the EU was devoted to the European prospects of Serbia and the entire region."

Also on Thursday, Vucic also accepted letters of accreditation from new ambassadors of Pakistan and Belarus, Syed Adil Gilani and Valery Brylev.
