"Appointing Gasic as BIA chief is scandalous"

Opposition SDS party leader Boris Tadic has criticized PM Aleksandar Vucic's announcement that Bratislav Gasic will become the head of the BIA.

"Appointing Gasic as BIA chief is scandalous"

In a written statement sent to the media, Serbia's former president said Gasic - who was sacked as defense minister after making sexist remarks at the expense of a journalist - has neither the qualifications nor knowledge to perform this "extremely complex state job" - i.e., take over as director of the civilian security service.

"Gasic is remembered as a defense minister responsible for the crashing of a helicopter when seven people lost their lives, and as a man who insulted women," Tadic said.

The nomination represents "a picture of Vucic's authorities," he added.

"Vucic and his understanding of state leadership are to blame," Tadic concluded.
