"Kosovo talks must continue; Serbia is strategic partner"

Nikolic said he viewed Zaoralek's visit as a great opportunity to improve bilateral relations and make life better for the citizens of Serbia.

He thanked the Czech Republic for its support to Serbia on its path towards full membership in the European Union, saying that "our country is determined to join the European Union, because it believes this is still the best solution to achieve progress and better standards, despite the problems the organization is currently facing."

Speaking about the problems in the negotiations Serbia is conducting with the interim administration in Pristina, Nikolic and Zaoralek "agreed that the dialogue must continue and full security of citizens and stability of the whole region maintained," and that "any escalation of problems could undo all the effort that has been invested so far."

Zaoralek also "stressed that his country, together with its partners from the Visegrad Group strongly supports the accession of Serbia to the European Union and finds this to be a very important issue - because Serbia is seen as a strategic partner that contributes significantly to the progress of the entire region."

The Czech prime minister - who this week canceled his trip to Montenegro over a hacking affair at home, but went ahead with his Serbia visit - will also be received by his Serbian counterpart, Aleksandar Vucic.
