"Presidential, maybe parliamentary elections in April"

The current ruling majority, the newspaper continued, could have as many as three presidential candidates, with "the greatest uncertainty" being whether PM and SNS party leader Aleksandar Vucic will run.

Meanwhile, SPS leader and First Deputy PM and FM Ivica Dacic, and SDP leader and Deputy PM and Minister of Trade and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajic are both expected to be candidates.

The daily said sources from the Serbian government HQ said unofficially that early parliamentary elections could be held simultaneously with the presidential vote, but added that this "looks unlikely at the moment."

The article also notes that this is all the more true since if Vucic decides to run for president, a new prime minister can be appointed in the National Assembly with no need to go to the polls.

"The current ruling majority," continues the paper, "has the parliament's support, and such a thing would be doable."

Quoting the article, the Beta agency said the daily "brings two quite opposite suppositions, when it comes to the presidential, and the possible parliamentary elections."

According to the first, the reason to call early elections would be "the thin" majority in the Assembly, "seen not so much in the number of deputies who support the government, as in suspicions about the loyalty of the SPS."

"On the other hand, quite on the contrary, SPS leader Dacic is being mentioned as a joint candidate of the Progressives (SNS) and the Socialists (SPS) - a candidate of the current safe ruling majority," the article said.

Several other Belgrade-based print media are also reporting about the possibility of a snap parliamentary election only a year after the previous such vote, held in April 2016.

State officials are yet to comment on any of these reports.
