Creating a special database of citizens who have filed complaints against the city of Nis would be a punishable violation, Rodoljub Sabic has warned.

Mayor warned against creating "special database of citizens"

Sabic also said he was convinced that Bulatovic's announcement was the result of "a reckless, emotional gesture" rather than "an expression of serious intent." However, regardless of the motive, the city must refrain from implementing this, the commissioner said in a statement on Tuesday carried by the Beta agency.

Sabic also expects the city to confirm for him and the public that it does not intend to go ahead with the idea, and in that way remove the cause for the citizens' concern, and the need for his office to take other measures from its competencies.

On Tuesday, Sabic said on his Twitter account that Bulatovic "called him immediately after receiving the warning to say he would not create the database."

Bulatovic said earlier that Nis would create "a special database" to include all citizens who have filed complaints against the city, and set up "a special working body to analyze this data."

The purpose, the mayor said, will be "to find a compromise solution" between the city and the citizens who have sued it for various claims - "but also the other way round, between the city and those citizens sued by the city for various debts."
