"Unions have a right to know how many people are redundant in a school, how many vacancies there are, and where they notice manipulations they are under obligation to report it, and I will take the measures from my competencies," Sarcevic said.

Speaking about two documents determining the manner of forming elementary school classes, Sarcevic said changing those "would not influence savings, but could create new surplus employees."

"I took over the ministry's coffers somewhat in the red, for which the previous minister is not to blame, but I must say that rationalization had not been carried out," he said.

Speaking about higher education, the minister said there was a conclusion ready relating to Bologna rules students, "that should help make 48 points the condition for their budgetary status."

Sarcevic added that "older students" were offered a good model to switch to the Bologna rules, but that their number was not precisely known at this time.

Asked about "new names in the ministry," he said Gordana Predic and Ana Marija Vicek have been named as state secretaries, while another state secretary is yet to be appointed.
