"EU was founded on anti-fascism, must react to this"

"To, in a country which is a member of the EU, raise a monument to a terrorist and murderer (Miro Baresic), who was sentenced in one of the EU states, is not only scandalous but also very worrying," Omerovic said.

He believes it is "inappropriate and disgraceful in this Europe, after the Second World War."

"Special gravity is given to the event by the presence of two ministers from the Croatian government!," Omerovic's statement said of the unveiling of the monument to Baresic on Sunday, and added:

"The EU, which is founded on anti-fascism, must react, otherwise this will be a signal to all member-states that it is allowed to raise monuments to those who glorify fascism and Nazism and those who served them as Ustashas."

"Is the EU, with its silence, signaling all other associates of fascism across Europe, from Norway, via the Baltic states, Hungary, Italy, Spain and finally to Germany - that it is allowed to glorify the greatest evil of the 20th century, and the biggest criminals and murderers?," Omerovic asked in his statement.
