Belgrade mayor to resign in coming days - report

According to the daily, the leading candidate to replace him is Andreja Mladenovic.

This comes after Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said in June that top city authorities in Belgrade were behind the Savamala district demolitions in the night of April 24, when unidentified masked persons tore down several buildings in Hercegovacka Street. The police did not react when citizens reported it.

At the time, the city authorities said they had nothing to do with the demolition.

A series of protests were then launched in Belgrade, demanding the resignations of Mali, the interior minister, the president of the Belgrade Assembly, as well as of the acting police director and the chief of the Communal Police. A new protest has been scheduled for July 13.
