Minister says media interest in demolition case is "spin"

According to witnesses, the demolitions in this Belgrade district

were carried out in late April by masked persons, during the night.

"The police are working to shed light on this case, and we will solve it," Stefanovic told state broadcaster RTS, and added:

"This coalition against the EU, they have nothing else to offer to citizens. They cannot bring some new investor. Something good will not become the main news, a new increase of salaries and pensions next year, an increase in GDP."

Asked what he intends to do when it comes to Ombudsman Sasa Jankovic's report, who concluded the police did not react adequately on the night the buildings were torn down, Stefanovic said, "everything will be examined."

"As we have showed the ombudsman was not wiretapped, so we will investigate this. The investigation will reveal all," said Stefanovic.

He noted that buildings in Savamala were not residential, but "buildings for making riches - the result of collusion between politics and tycoons." The minister added that applications to legalize them had been rejected "ten times."

One of the owners, he continued, was a member of the Belgrade City Council "during the mandate of previous authorities" while another "also became a member of the SNS - a certain Markovic."
