President visits Indonesia, praises "excellent" ties

Nikolic was greeted by Indonesian Minister of Transportation Ignatius Jonanwith, with whom he discussed the strengthening of bilateral relations, especially in the economic field.

According to a statement issued by Nikolic's cabinet, the two officials said the friendship between the two countries has a solid foundation, from the period of the Non-Aligned Movement, while Serbian president stressed that his country stands firmly on the path of European integration, but is intensely renewing and strengthening old friendships around the world.

Nikolic underlined that Serbia appreciates the fact Indonesia supports its territorial integrity and sovereignty.

"Relations between Serbia and Indonesia are excellent, but we must strengthen even more the potential for better economic cooperation," he added.

Speaking about the migrant crisis "that has hit Europe, but also its fundamental principles," Nikolic said that Europe is taking a big test, while "it is not easy to make a good balance between ensuring the freedom of movement and protection of countries from terrorism and different forms of violence."

"Only through joint efforts and through understanding can this problem, which remains a constant threat to countries that are on the migrant route, be solved," he added.

Nikolic also said he was confident that Wednesday's meeting with the president of Indonesia will provide "additional impetus to the deep friendship between the two peoples, with economic and other ties further intensified."

"There are many opportunities for developing economic cooperation, education, culture, science, and many others," stressed the president of Serbia.
