In Sunday's elections, Serbian citizens showed strong support for their country's strategic objective to join the EU.

Serbians strongly support EU accession - EC

“Serbia has taken major steps on its EU path, with the opening of the first negotiating chapters last year. We are confident that Serbia will build on this progress with renewed commitment to reforms, in particular on rule of law and the economy, and continued engagement in the dialogue with Pristina,” the EC said.

The EC underlined it looked forward to “the parliament being constituted in good time” and working “with the new government to consolidate Serbia's progress towards joining the EU".

In the release sent to Tanjug, the EC noted that Serbia held elections at national, provincial and local levels on 24 April in a calm atmosphere.
