The SNS party is the one to decide whether to create a government alone after early parliamentary elections, or to, if it is able, go for coalitions.

President doubts "wisdom" of one party forming cabinet alone

"All political combinations will come up on the agenda once elections are over and once we see the results. But, I think that the SNS leadership should consider well whether it's smart at this time to push all the other parties into the opposition and effectively turn them against you. That's another topic to analyze," Nikolic said.

Asked about "the media war" between officials of the SNS and the SPS - who are in coalition in the current government - and whether their three-year alliance might be coming to an end, the president said:

"Serbia's political scene in practically in a pre-election period even though elections have not yet been formally called. And once the campaign starts, then the coalitions end. It is completely natural that everyone is now fighting to position themselves on the political scene. Everyone wants the best possible results, and there's nothing unusual there. So, these skirmishes and disputes are usual."

Nikolic added he would support the pre-election list of the ruling SNS - a party he used to lead - and "help as much as he can."

"There's nobody better on the political scene," he concluded.
