FM addresses UNSC, says Pristina's move is "unprecedented"

Dialogue, as a method of solving all open issues does not and must not have an alternative, Dacic said, adding that "the agreements need to be implemented in full."

During the session dedicated to the latest report of UN secretary-general on Kosovo, Dacic also said that "the crucial reason why Belgrade had signed the Brussels agreement had been a profound lack of progress in ensuring that the Serb and other non-Albanian communities in Kosovo could exercise basic human rights."

UN mission in Kosovo, UNMIK, head Zahir Tanin addressed the same session to condemn violent protests of opposition parties in Kosovo and "called for the swift implementation of all agreements reached between Belgrade and Pristina so far."

Tanin said he deplored the "violent and unacceptable behavior" and praised the restraint of the Kosovo institutions.

"The rule of law must be applied equally and any person who resorts to violence must be held to account," said Tanin, Beta reported.

"Regardless of political issues, there is still determination on both sides to solve problems," he said, and "called for all the goals whose achievement is the purpose of the deals between Belgrade and Pristina to be reached on time."

Pristina's representative Vlora Citaku said on Thursday evening at the UNSC that Pristina "will not ask for Serbia's consent to join international organizations not only because of vanity, but because we are a member of the global community and because of citizens of Kosovo, regardless of their religious and ethnic affiliations."

Pristina "takes all its international obligations seriously and will provide UNSC members with arguments to gain their support in the future," said she.

"We promise that we will implement all we have agreed with Serbia, but we expect the same from Serbia," Citaku said, according to Tanjug.

According to the report, Citaku was in New York instead of Kosovo Foreign Minister Hashim Thaci who "canceled his trip due to high tensions in Pristina stirred by the opposition protests."
