PM: EU recognizes Serbia's enormous progress

Vucic said at a press conference that Serbia has made considerable progress on its EU pathway, and that in the greatest part of its report the EC has presented Serbia's achievements in an unbiased manner.

He said that the EC has recognized Serbia's great efforts to preserve stability and good relations in the region and praised its engagement in tackling the migration crisis.

These are positive assessments, but there is still much to be done in future, Vucic said.

Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport said Tuesday that Serbia had made huge progress on the road to the EU over the last 12 months, as could be seen from the new progress report.

The report points to the need of holding an Intergovernmental Conference in December in order to open the first chapter in accession negotiations between the EU and Serbia, Davenport told the press conference in Belgrade.

The report also points out that Serbia has made substantial progress in implementing structural reforms, which have begun showing results, Davenport said.

Serbia is also commended for making great progress in the area of fiscal consolidation.

The report is encouraging Serbia to maintain the current pace of reforms, including the restructuring of state enterprises, he said.
