Parliament rejects law on state-owned real estate

Serbian MPs did not adopt a law on special conditions of sale of certain real estate owned by the Republic of Serbia.

Parliament rejects law on state-owned real estate

The law was passed on July 31, but Nikolic refused to sign it, explaining it was unconstitutional.

In the meantime, the Serbian government informed parliament is had decided to abandon the law.

Nikolic returned the law as it envisages that the state assets can only be purchased by their tenants.

The president believes that the adoption of this law would violate the Constitution, as Article 84 of the country's supreme law envisages that everyone has the same position in the market.

This is the first law Nikolic returned to the parliament, while his predecessor, Boris Tadic, used this possibility on several occasions - in 2005 he refused to sign the laws on government and labor, in 2006 the law on broadcasting and in 2011 the law on value added tax.
