The law should make it possible to reduce budget expenditures to sustainable amounts, with an optimal number of public sector employees, which would improve the efficiency of the public administration, Udovicki said, presenting in the Serbian parliament the bill on the methodology of determining the maximum number of public sector employees."This is not a law on linear job cuts in every organization or state authority. It requires that the number of employees be considered carefully and that everyone be responsible for their respective departments;" Udovicki said, adding that the regulation will most likely remain in place until 2018, when she expects the problematic practice to change, making the law unnecessary.
Udovicki said that local self-government authorities that fail to comply with the limitation regarding the maximum number of employees will be temporarily denied budgetary transfers.
There is also a need to introduce new jobs to enhance and modernise government practices, and there will be new employment on Serbia's path towards the EU, the minister said.
