Miscevic: Precedent that would harm UNESCO

Commenting on Kosovo's bid to join the UNESCO, Miscevic said that "unfortunately international organizations are heavily influenced by politics," and pointed out that Serbia needs to increase its diplomatic activity in order to prevent a negative outcome.

A great deal depends on the position and understanding of the UNESCO member states which are expected to make this decision, she added.

“There is a lot of politics in this organization, but it is the politics aimed at understanding the need to protect the cultural heritage,” Miscevic told Radio and Television of Serbia.

As a member state of UNESCO, Serbia has already lodged a protest, said Miscevic, adding that it is very difficult for the non-UN members to join this organization.

The Serbian cultural heritage in Kosovo and Metohija has great value to world civilization as well, and it must be safeguarded by the UNESCO, she stressed.

Miscevic noted that the decision regarding Kosovo's membership in the UNESCO will be a difficult one, and probably take a long time to make.
