British draft "unnecessary, harmful" - Serbian FM

Serbia urges UN Security Council members not to vote for <a href="http://www.b92.net/eng/news/politics.php?yyyy=2015&mm=06&dd=16&nav_id=94450" class="text-link" target= "_blank">a draft British resolution</a> on Srebrenica in a letter sent on Monday by the country's foreign minister.

British draft "unnecessary, harmful" - Serbian FM

It further states that the adoption of the British resolution on Srebrenica would be unnecessary, harmful, and would cause unforeseeable and long-lasting negative consequences on the stabilization process in Bosnia-Herzegovina but also the entire Western Balkans.

Dacic stressed that the Western Balkans is facing new security challenges, risks and threats to which leaders of the peoples of the region need to find new answers.

"However, the draft of this resolution, which is excelptionally poorly conceived and timed, deals with the past in a way that does not help the region face the needs of the present and the future, and will not contribute, encourage, strengthen, facilitate and speed up the process of reconciliation," stated the minister.

He pointed out that "passions caused in the region by the very announcement of such a non-balanced resolution, without adequate transparent consultations with relevant parties, best testify to this."

In the letter, Dacic also emphasizes that Serbia pays tribute to all victims of conflicts in the former Yugoslavia "and is firmly convinced that our memories and activities whose goal is not to forget the past should be solely in the function of reconciliation and promotion of regional cooperation and good neighborliness."
