Analysts say "Albania is not well-intentioned"

"Rama has excellent PR advisers and he was told what he needs to say - that we will cooperate, improve relations... this is a forced attempt from both sides, especially the Serb side, because that is a condition to open chapters (in EU membership talks). The intentions of Albania are not well-intentioned," said Djurkovic.

Zivotic described the meeting between Vucic and Rama as "a marketing move," adding:

"Looking at Serb-Albanian relations during the past two centuries, it can be said it is a conflict relationship. There were bright moments ahead of the Balkan Wars, ahead of the First World War, and the cooperation of the Partisans in the Second World War, as well as the thawing in the 1960s. The rest can be characterized as a continuous conflict."

Both analysts agreed that "great powers have had a huge influence on relations between Serbia and Albania."

"Albanians have been the international community's favorites, and they were used to control the Balkans. And everything stems from that unequal position," thinks Djurkovic.

"Albanians always brought up their national question during the great crises in the world, and always found their creditor in the company of great powers. The role of great powers was decisive in the 20th century when it comes to relations between Serbia and Albania," stressed Zivotic, and added:

"There are stereotypes on both sides, but history has made sure that those stereotypes stay alive."
