Defense minister rejects conflict of interest allegation

The Anti-Corruption launched the procedure for determining conflict of interest in the case of SNS Vice President and Minister of Defense Bratislava Gasic over allegations that as mayor of Krusevac he approved money from the city budget to media companies owned by members of his family.

The minister expressed his willingness to cooperate with the Agency and respects all independent bodies.

"The agency continually breaks the law by conducting its cases in public and not respecting the presumption of innocence. Many people have been dragged through the mud before the prosecution would reject the Agency's allegations," said Gasic.

Prime Minister and leader of the SNS Aleksandar Vucic said that the charges against Gasic are very serious and that it was important to investigate them, adding that the minister would be held responsible if the allegations were true.

Later on Thursday, Gasic's through his representative, sent a detailed statement to the Agency rejecting all accusations, saying they were "completely groundless," and asking that the "senseless, fabricated and insinuated" procedure be halted.

The Agency's suspicion of any violation of the law is "completely unfounded and untrue," the statement said, adding that Gasic rejected the claims "in their entirety."
