The goal of the Serbian government is to take the level of media freedoms "to the level that is relevant in all Western European countries."

PM wants media freedoms to be "at western level"

"The Serbian government has adopted a series of laws to strengthen the freedom and independence of the media, which was one of the priorities of this government at the time of its formation," a statement from the government press office quoted Vucic as saying.

Mijatovic welcomed the adoption of the new media laws and the firm resolve of the Serbian government to implement media reforms, stressing that Serbia can be an example to the countries of the region in terms of introducing good European practices.

She expressed satisfaction with the support that she is receiving during Serbia's OSCE chairmanship, noting that the communication and collaboration with the government of the Republic of Serbia is on a high level.

"We will be your partners - I want this region to go forward, but we will not achieve that without freedom of the media, and that is my only objective," Mijatovic said.

According to her, the confirmation of the indictment in the case of Slavko Curuvija was ab important example for Serbia and the region.

At the same time, the representative of the OSCE praised the readiness of the Serbian prime minister for the state to be involved in solving the problem of safety of journalist Brankica Stankovic.
