Johannes Hahn says that Serbia should carefully consider its decision not to support EU sanctions against Russia if Belgrade hopes to join the European Union.

Hahn: Serbia needs to consider sanctions against Russia

Addressing the European Parliament on Tuesday, Hahn also said that if Belgrade “is moving towards accession, the signal will have to be the right one” when it came to sanctions against Russia.

When it comes to Kosovo-Metohija, Hahn expressed the hope that political dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina would continue, adding that the five EU member states that had not recognized Kosovo's independence had made some progress on the issue.

Hahn will take up the office of Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Negotiations on November 1.
