PM: Russians understand our messages

"I think our Russian friends now also understand our messages," he told Radio and Television of Serbia.

The Serbian government will treat everyone seriously and responsibly and will know how to protect Serbia's relations with Russia.

"I am certain that his excellency Mr. Chepurin knows that as well, just as I am certain all the ambassadors from the EU, US and other countries know it," Vučić stated.

According a statement issued by the Serbian government, Vučić and Chepurin discussed important issues between the two countries on Saturday.

They agreed that good relations between the two nations were based on mutual respect.

"Serbia is an independent country that has decided on its own to join the EU and to build the best possible relations with Russia, "Vučić told Chepurin.

The ambassador "thanked Vučić for Serbia's great effort to improve its relations with Russia and find a peaceful solution for the Ukrainian crisis that would not involve sanctions."

The relations between Serbia and Russia should be based on the countries' real and vital interests, Chepurin stressed.

Vučić and Chepurin agreed that the two nations have "an extraordinary opportunity to improve their political and economic relations, especially in the agricultural, energy and construction industries."

They also concluded that "relations between the two countries are friendly, and complemented by mutual respect and appreciation."
