Recalling the huge sacrifices Serbia made during the war, in which it fought on the side of the Allied Powers, the prime minister said that "today everyone needs to understand how important it is that peace and stability are preserved in Serbia."

He added that the country "should be proud of the fact that it wants to have best possible relations with those against whom it fought at the time, as well as with its then allies."

"Even though we lost a lot, we can build a rich country and nation through peace," Vučić said as he opened the session.

"We are in Niš because we are not the government of Belgrade, but of Serbia," he remarked, and mentioning several Serbian towns, said they were all "equally important" to his cabinet, which would work to provide people with conditions to remain in their towns, instead of "the whole Serbia moving to Belgrade, and us doing nothing to prevent it."

A memorial plaque was also revealed today in Niš on a building which served as the wartime seat of the Serbian government.

One month after the Sarajevo assassination, the Austro-Hungarian Empire on July 28, 1914 declared war on the Kingdom of Serbia, thus starting the First World War.
