"Fundamental South Stream issues resolved" - PM

Vučić on Monday met with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, first face-to-face for one hour, and then joined by their delegations.

On the Serbian side the meeting was attended by Energy Minister Aleksandar Antić, Minster of Economy Dušan Vujović and Belgrade Mayor Siniša Mali.

Vučić said afterwards that Serbia wants to become part of the EU, but did not want to damage relations with Russia, while all questions about the South Stream have been resolved, and that "the signing of a document that would formalize this can be expected soon."

"I've never hidden the fact that Serbia wants to become part of the EU, but Serbia does not want to, at a difficult time, undermine the good, the best friendly relations with Russia," said he.

Medvedev said that the South Stream project is a priority for Europe and for Serbia and that its realization will indicate the raising of the level of cooperation between Russia and Serbia to the next level. He added that the project "must not be politicized."

According to Medvedev, it marks a partnership approach between the two countries in this job.

As he addressed reporters, Vučić specified that he came "with four pleas," and said all four had been met. Only some technical details remain to be arranged and it can be expected that "everything will be finished" in the coming days, he was quoted as saying.

Long and constructive talks were held on South Stream in which all issues were resolved, the Serbian prime minister stressed.

"The fundamental issues no longer exist because they have been settled and only technical details remain to be agreed on," said Vučić.
