Lavrov: Russia supports Serbia's EU path

"It is Serbia's goal to become an EU member state, but at the same time to maintain good relations with Russia," Vučić underlined.

The Serbian prime minister voiced the concern about the clashes in eastern Ukraine, and underlined that Serbia will advocate for the Ukrainian crisis to be resolved through dialogue, the government's media relations office said.

The officials also discussed economic cooperation between the two countries, especially in the energy sector.

The Serbian prime minister and the Russian foreign minister agreed that there is room for further expansion in the volume of trade, and larger Russian investments in Serbia, and Serbian ones in Russia.

Vučić thanked the Russian Federation for its assistance during the recent severe floods, and Lavrov said that Russia will continue to send aid to flood-hit areas, and that Russia would like to see the emergency situation center in Niš grow into a regional center.

Lavrov said that Moscow is willing to strengthen cooperation with Serbia even further, in all fields, and that it backs Serbia's EU path, the statement notes.
