"I am looking forward to our work on common priorities, including promoting economic modernisation, improving the investment climate and strengthening our bilateral relations," Biden said in the letter to Vučić, who became Serbia's prime minister in April

.

"Your leadership is vital to forging deeper ties between our two countries - the United States will continue to support the efforts of your government to make Serbia a factor of stability in the Balkan region and beyond," the U.S. vice president said.

The crisis in Ukraine "has only strengthened the U.S. resolve to support Europe, which is coherent, free and lives in peace," he said.

"I rely on your leadership to be certain that Serbia will stand by its European partners in support of international principles since you aspire towards the rights and privileges of European Union membership and since Serbia is to take over the OSCE presidency in 2015," noted Biden.

With regards to Bosnia and Herzegovina, I welcome Serbia's role as the voice of tolerance, unity and progress towards Euro-Atlantic integrations, he added.

"Your efforts to fully normalize relations with Kosovo are decisive not only for attaining Serbia's EU membership, but also for making life better for the people of Serbia and Kosovo," Biden said.

On behalf of the American people, Biden also expressed "deep condolences over the loss of life caused by the floods in Serbia and other countries in the region."

"The United States is ready to provide additional assistance for recovery and rebuilding," the letter said.
