According to preliminary results of the Election Commission (RIK) only four coalitions and lists of ethnic minorities will have seats in the new parliament.

State election commission announces preliminary results

RIK President Dejan Đurđević told reporters that the results, based on ballots from 65.37 percent of the polling stations (50.51 percent of the electorate), showed the SNS-led coalition had won 48.44 percent (156 mandates), followed by the coalition gathered around the Socialists (SPS), with 14.05 percent (45 mandates).

Boris Tadić's New Democratic Party (NDS) and its coalition received 5.86 percent (18 mandates), while the one led by the Democratic Party (DS) had 5.46 percent (17 mandates).

In addition, seats were also won by Sulejman Ugljanin's SDA Sandžak (1.09 percent - 3 mandates), the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (3.01 percent - 9 mandates), and the Riza Halimi-led Party for Democratic Action (0.89 percent - 2 mandates).

The remaining list failed to cross the five-percent threshold, and will not have any MPs, according to these early results. They include the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS), the Liberal-Democrats (LDP), and the United Regions of Serbia (URS).

Đurđević explained that the commission does not use projections, but rather presents data as raw facts based on the processed material.

Voter turnout was 55.26 percent and 2.69 percent of the ballots were invalid, he told an earlier news conference, held at 22:00 CET.

When it comes to the vote in Kosovo, it took place at all 90 polling places. The ballot boxes from there are now sealed and on their way to Vranje and Raška, central Serbia, which is being facilitated by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

Đurđević said that the electoral process was fair, and all polling places, save one in the southwestern Serbian city of Novi Pazar, were opened.

Only minor irregularities were reported, their number being far lower than in the 2012 elections.
