Outgoing Prime Minister and SPS party leader Ivica Dačić has said that early provincial elections should be held in Vojvodina.

"And especially the electoral law there does not correspond to it, it absolutely does not allow for the will of the citizens to be copied to the assembly," Dačić said.

He then addressed a comment he made during a recent campaign rally about Serbia also needing presidential elections, by saying:

"Simply, not all elections should happen on the same day, that's not good. Then there is tension, and it is important that everything enters normal procedures, normal deadlines. Serbia will not be a normal country until it has such stability of institutions."

The SPS leader also said that his comment about presidential elections was made "in the context of all elections that exist."

"These elections are taking place in Serbia in order to arrive at a new popular legitimacy and accordingly I think that in the future period clear deadlines and procedures should be established to hold certain elections, in order to avoid as much as possible the possibility of various early elections and creating confusion in the society," - Dačić was quoted as saying.

According to him, when the new parliament reaches half of its term local elections should be held.

"This is to check the legitimacy, as is the case in most countries in the world," Dačić told the magazine in the interview that will be published on February 20.
