According to a statement published on Jahjaga website, the decision is based on the law on local elections and correspondence from the ministry of administration and local governance.

Jahjaga has ordered Kosovo's central election commission to undertake all procedures required for organizing and holding the mayoral elections in North Mitrovica, calling on all citizens with the right of vote to take part in the repeat elections, the statement said.

Krstimir Pantić of Citizens' Initiative Srpska ticket recently won the runoff mayoral elections in northern Kosovska Mitrovica, but later refused to sign the oath of office.

He said that he did not want to sign the oath bearing the coat of arms and inscription of the republic of Kosovo, which were covered with a sticker, since in so doing he would violate the Constitution of Serbia.

Pantić previously resigned as deputy director of the Serbian government's Office for Kosovo and Metohija.
