The resolution was passed with 485 votes for and 94 against, while 40 abstained. European Parliament passes resolution on Kosovo The EP Rapporteur for Kosovo Ulrike Lunacek said that the fact that a large majority of MEPs backed her report is a strong signal that Kosovo's future lies in integration into the European Union. She urged the five EU member countries that have not recognised Kosovo to do so. The EU's positive impact on Kosovo is constantly being weakened by disagreements within the Union on this issue, Lunacek said. The resolution calls on the Kosovo authorities to do more in fighting corruption and organized crime. The Pristina authorities are also urged to start electoral reforms as soon as possible. In the debate, MEPs said that the local elections, held in November and December 2013 for the first time in the entire territory of Kosovo, represent a big step forward for democracy in Kosovo. They also said that the Brussels agreement strengthens the responsibility of Belgrade and Pristina to continue reforms required on the path of European integrations. Any transfer of powers from the EU mission, EULEX, "must be successive and based on real progress, with the civil society in Kosovo also involved in the process," the European MPs agreed. Tanjug
