In a statement for Tanjug, the leader of the Civic Initiative SDP noted that this was "the last favorable moment, which needs to be used." K. Mitrovica municipal assembly to meet on Friday It is not known how the session will turn out, Ivanovic said following announcements that ethnic Albanian assembly members will not be attending. The ethnic polarization is not a good start, Ivanovic said, adding that the municipal assembly seems set to deal with top-level politics, rather than focus on local issues. A compromise must be found, and focus must be placed on the municipal agenda and the vast number of infrastructure-related problems, which have been neglected for 10 years. "This is the last favorable moment, because we have the attention of the international community, which is ready to assist politically, but also economically," Ivanovic explained. He recalled that citizens have to deal with daily water shortages, a landfill situated by the River Ibar, sewage and heating problems, unpaid electricity bills and a lack of sports and cultural facilities. Ivanovic also pointed to violence among youth and children and a high percentage of drug abuse as problems that can only be solved by orderly society. Recalling that a group of young people clashed on Christmas Eve, and that some sustained serious injuries, Ivanovic said that there is no solution to such problems without a constitutive session of the municipal assembly.
