BELGRADE Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) Vice President Dijana Vukomanovic believes that "the time is not right" for holding early parliamentary elections in Serbia. However, she noted that the decision on this will be made by PM and SPS leader Ivica Dacic, and his first deputy in the cabinet, and SNS party leader Aleksandar Vucic. "Dacic and Vucic will decide on early elections" "Our 'no' is not enough if a coalition is assembled that mathematically can be more numerous and will say 'yes' - but key political agreement on the appropriateness of elections at this point will be made by Dacic and Vucic," Vukomanovic told Radio-Television Serbia (RTS). She believes that "it is not the right time for Serbia to be throwing money around when a restrictive budget has been adopted, and more than 40,000 people eat in soup kitchens." "The budget should set aside 0.1 percent for parliamentary elections, it's about EUR 8 million, plus what the parties set aside, plus the (local) Belgrade elections, which is about EUR 10 million," Vukomanovic added. This official of the ruling Socialists also told RTS that performance of mayors and directors of public companies from the ranks of the party "was being scrutinized," and rejected claims that the SPS ratings were now lower than before the elections. "We recorded a small percentage increase," Vukomanovic asserted, adding that the SPS was seeing "a major influx of new members." (B92, file) Beta RTS
