BELGRADE President Tomislav Nikolic stressed on Wednesday that Serbia and India "should work hard on improving their economic cooperation." Nikolic made the remarks while meeting with India's Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur, who called for an investment conference as the best way to connect business communities. India backs Serbia on Kosovo, urges stronger business ties "The relations between the two countries are extremely good and there is space for their improvement," Nikolic noted. The basis of the friendship was established in the past, Nikolic stressed, adding that there were possibilities to intensify the cooperation, especially in economy, and calling on India's business community to invest in Serbia. The potential for economic cooperation has not been taken advantage of significantly and that is something that requires more effort, he underscored. India's support to Serbia in protecting its territorial integrity is precious to Serbia, he pointed out, adding that the country was under a lot of pressure, "but would never recognize Kosovo's independence." "If it did so, then every nationality that constitutes the majority population in any area inside any country would have the right to do the same. Many nationalities live in Serbia and all of their minority rights have been recognized," he said, according to a release from the presidential press service. Kaur supported Serbia on the Kosovo issue, emphasizing India's view that Serbia should settle the matter in a peaceful way and through dialogue. "India is aware of the difficulties Serbia has faced in recent decades," she stated, adding it was positive that the country's economic growth had started to rise. "This will allow many investors in India to see Serbia's advantages, particularly in agriculture, information technology, science and pharmacy," she noted. Experts from India will soon visit companies to explore the potential for cooperation in technological development, the Indian official remarked.
