BELGRADE The government has appointed Sinisa Mali, Nebojsa Covic, Andreja Mladenovic, Nikola Nikodijevic, and Tatjana Pasic to the interim city council in Belgrade. Sinisa Mali will head the council. They are joined by Pasic (DS), Mladenovic (DSS) and Nikodijevic (SPS). This was confirmed during a news conference First Deputy Prime Minister and SNS leader Aleksandar Vucic held late on Monday. "As for the LDP, we invited them, we thank them for their cooperation, but they said they could not (join the council) because of a poisoned atmosphere, for which they accused the Democratic Party (DS)," he told reporters. LDP leader Cedomir Jovanovic was meeting with Vucic earlier on Monday to discuss the interim authority, but at the end of the talks he declined the invitation to participate. "We think that the LDP's place is in the interim council, but could not accept the invitation and justify the DS in new attacks and lynching," LDP official Bojan Djuric was quoted as saying. The Belgrade City Assembly passed a vote of no confidence in Mayor Dragan Djilas, the leader of the opposition Democratic Party (DS), in late September.
