Serb candidates win in three northern municipalities

Mayors of six Serb municipalities in Kosovo-Metohija south of the Ibar River will be elected in the second round of voting scheduled for December 1.

BELGRADE Mayors of six Serb municipalities in Kosovo-Metohija south of the Ibar River will be elected in the second round of voting scheduled for December 1. The heads of three northern Kosovo municipalities - Zubin Potok, Zvecan and Leposavic - were elected in the first round, the Kosovo Central Election Commission in Pristina said late on Thursday. In all six Serb municipalities south of the Ibar River - Gracanica, Strpce, Klokot, Novo Brdo, Ranilug and Partes - one of the two candidates for mayor was from the Citizens' Initiative Srpska list, said Daka. According to the final results in the first round, mayors were elected in a total of 13 municipalities - Decani, Glogovac, Istok, Kacanik, Kosovo Polje, Leposavic, Podujevo, Srbica, Stimlje, Zubin Potok, Zvecan, Mamusa and Djeneral Jankovic - and the second round will take place in the remaining 24 municipalities. In the first round, Hashim Thaci's Democratic Party of Kosovo got the mayor's position in four municipalities, Isa Mustafa's Democratic League of Kosovo in three municipalities, the Citizens' Initiative Srpska in three municipalities as well, Ramush Haradinaj's Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, the Turkish Democratic Party of Kosovo and an independent candidate won the elections for municipal mayors in one municipality each. The commission chair said that 807,240 voters, or 46.34 percent of the total of 1,792,913 registered voters in Kosovo, turned out. A total of 23,592 voters cast their votes outside Kosovo, and there were 18,690 conditional votes, votes by mail, and those cast by persons with special needs. Daka added that the commission unanimously adopted the final report on the vote delivered to them by the Count and Results Center. Serb candidates win in three northern municipalities
