PRISTINA NATO troops in Kosovo, KFOR, said they "rapidly intervened" on Sunday afternoon "as a result of attacks on polling stations." The incidents happened in northern Kosovska Mitrovica. KFOR "rapidly intervenes" in northern KM "At the request of EULEX, KFOR troops, pre-deployed in the north of Kosovo to contribute to a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement during the election, immediately intervened," KFOR said in a statement. The press release added that "a Quick Reaction Force from the Carabinieri Multinational Specialized Unit" was deployed in northern Kosovska Mitrovica, and was later joined by reserve units from the KFOR Tactical Reserve Manoeuvre Battalion to reinforce others already deployed in the area. "In addition, in the town of Zvecan, KFOR troops reacted to a disturbance and restored security within the area. Later in the evening, KFOR, as requested by EULEX, provided for a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement on the routes through which the election ballot material travelled to the counting centre," the statement said, and added: "KFOR will continue to act impartially, prudently and firmly to contribute to maintain a safe and secure environment for all people in Kosovo."
