BELGRADE The deal struck in Brussels late on Monday "was the end of a small crisis in the talks between Belgrade and Pristina," says Milivoje Mihajlovic. The head of the government media office added that it "showed that Brussels could and had to intervene when it came to Pristina's obstructions in the negotiations and elections in Kosovo." "Agreement in Brussels ends small crisis" "The local elections are the most important agreement from Brussels, and everything that happened in recent days, when Pristina banned Serbian officials from entering Kosovo, was unnecessary," he told RTS on Tuesday morning. "Prime Minister Ivica Dacic sent a timely warning that Pristina was obstructing the agreement on the local elections in Kosovo, which bore fruit," Mihajlovic pointed out. "The agreement from Monday showed that Brussels has the power to solve problems between Belgrade and Pristina efficiently and that reactions from Brussels to similar decisions by Pristina in recent years were lacking," he stressed. He described Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci's statements that it was agreed to ensure freedom of movement as "directed at the public in Kosovo." "The agreement is that Serbian officials can enter Kosovo and take part in the election process. Hashim Thaci is giving such statements for his own public," Mihajlovic remarked. "There will be serious work on harmonizing the lists of voters in the coming days," he said, adding that "Pristina was trying to put ethnic Albanians from south Kosovska Mitrovica who had never lived in the northern part of the city on the lists in order to influence the result of the elections." "It is a great problem that there are no Serb representatives in the Central Election Commission, but there was an agreement on that as well in Brussels on Monday, and it now remains to be seen whether Pristina will honour it," he stated. "This is one of the most serious crises," Mihajlovic believes, but said he also "fears that there will be more regarding the preparations for the elections and the lists of voters."
