BELGRADE Iran and Serbia "should work together more closely in economy and against terrorism and drug and weapons trafficking." This is what the speakers of the Serbian and Iranian parliaments, Nebojsa Stefanovic and Ali Larijani, agreed during their meeting on Monday in Belgrade. "Closer ties with Iran in economy, and against terrorism" The two countries need to fight terrorism and narcotics and weapons trafficking in a stronger and more efficient way and they can work more closely together in that regards, Stefanovic told a joint news conference at the Serbian parliament. Also, the current economic cooperation is modest, at around USD 40 million a year, which is why it should be improved, especially in infrastructure and transport. Stefanovic thanked Iran for the fact that it did not recognize Kosovo's independence and had no intention of changing its view. Larijani said Iran was interested in developing its relations with Serbia, considering the country's significance in the Balkans. He stated that the meeting with Stefanovic had touched on all topics and that there would be opportunity to discuss the economy and regional issues if such meetings became more frequent. He also invited Stefanovic to visit Iran. Larijani pointed out he had informed Stefanovic about Iran's nuclear programme and related misunderstandings, adding that the issue could be resolved through dialogue. (Tanjug) Tanjug
