BELGRADE Ivica Dacic says it is "in Serbia's interest that as many Serbs as possible vote in the local elections in Kosovo scheduled for November 3." Dacic also explained that he and Aleksandar Vulin, minister without portfolio in charge of Kosovo, late on Monday conferred with the ambassadors of the so-called Quint countries. Dacic hopes for "highest possible turnout" in Kosovo "It is in our interest that everything goes along peacefully, that as many Serbs as possible go to the polls and that the list which is backed by Serbia (citizens' initiative Srpska) receives as many votes as possible," Dacic told reporters on Tuesday. Dacic said that at the meeting with the ambassadors he and Vulin pointed to the greatest problems with the local elections that is participation of representatives of the Serb list in the electoral bodies and how many internally displaced Serbs, who have applied to participate in the elections, will be able to exercise their right to vote. The prime minister said that the election campaign will be launched on Friday. Asked whether he will meet with Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci soon, he said that EU High Representative Catherine Ashton had separate meetings with Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic and Thaci in New York discussing the topic of local elections. "The local elections will be discussed in Brussels on Tuesday between the working groups of Belgrade and Pristina," Dacic said, adding that his meeting with Thaci "is not planned for now."
