Liberals propose cooperation to Democrats

BELGRADE Cedomir Jovanovic, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), has presented a plan of cooperation to Democratic Party (DS) President Dragan Djilas. A future cooperation between the two opposition parties would lead to formation of a joint program council in order to offer an alternative on the political scene, it was said on Monday. Liberals propose cooperation to Democrats Jovanovic said that the LDP expects the Democrats to respond to the proposal in the next seven days. DS leader Dragan Djilas said that the LDP proposal will be discussed by the DS bodies, adding that a session of the DS Presidency will be held this week. Djilas and Jovanovic said that there are many areas which they could discuss, and the DS leader announced possible joint initiatives in the parliament. The leaders of the LDP and the DS said that it is important that the two biggest opposition parties, which share the European values, have officially started to negotiate. Jovanovic and Djilas said that they have not talked about creation of a coalition. Djilas said at a joint press conference with Jovanovic that the two parties have been brought together mostly by their responsibility towards the country and the ones who believe in the DS and the LDP. “We have the responsibility to do everything we can in order to offer an alternative and an idea how to overcome this difficult situation and make things better,” Djilas said. Jovanovic said that the DS has presented a basis for a joint program operation which focuses on economy, social issues, health system and education. The LDP leader said that there is no political equality in Serbia, adding that one year after the formation of the government the first serious step has been made towards the establishment of balance in the political arena.
