BELGRADE Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert says he expects a decision will be reached on June 28 to open the accession negotiations. This is "given the progress Serbia has been made in the EU association process," he was quoted as saying. Degert hopes for positive opinion on accession talks "I think we can be satisfied with everything that has been accomplished and also that will be able to reach a positive decision on June 28, bearing in mind the joint letter by European foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton and enlargement commissioner Stefan Fule and other important facts about Serbia's progress," said Degert. Degert also stressed that much progress has been achieved in the negotiations between Ivica Dacic and Hashim Thaci. "Another good indicator of Serbia's progress are strategies that have been adopted recently," said Degert, pointing out that one of them regards the fight against corruption. "All of these are strong arguments that we can place before the member-countries to support the opinion to open the accession negotiations with Serbia," he said. The EU official recalled that Ashton and Fule sent a joint letter to the EU member states on June 21, seeking a clear and positive decision on the opening of accession talks between the EU and Serbia.
