“Serbia must focus on getting EU talks date”
Serbia needs to fully focus on getting a date for the start of the EU accession negotiations in the next two months, Dragan Đilas has said.

BELGRADE Serbia needs to fully focus on getting a date for the start of the EU accession negotiations in the next two months, Dragan Djilas has said. “This is a confirmation of the EU pathway and a definite orientation of Serbia, which is very often torn between various parts of the world,” the opposition Democratic Party (DS) leader said. “Serbia must focus on getting EU talks date” Djilas noted that the DS would enable the government stability in order to continue with the implementation of the Brussels agreement and further deals that would guarantee that the country would get the date for the beginning of the EU accession negotiations. “We got such an agreement as a result of a fact that the government had raised the level of negotiations to the level of presidents and prime ministers and that they approached it rather frivolously. This is why we still have the text that gives certain rights and autonomy to Kosovo Serbs but on the other hand abolishes institutions of the state of Serbia and there is not a single word about the return, property, churches,” the DS leader told daily Blic. “Between an option to stand still and wait, knowing that no paper will be better than this one, and an option to move forward on the EU pathway, we have chosen the second one. We want to impose everyday topics because a country in which more people get arrested than get a job has no future,” Djilas pointed out. When asked to comment on President Tomislav Nikolic, he said that he rarely commented on him. “He helps the country not be taken seriously. This is a president who swore that he would return Kosovo to Serbia. We have a president who first requests cooperation with the western world and then calls them inquisition. A president who calls Serbs who live in Bosnia or who, like me, originate from there Bosnians. Will he call Kosovo Serbs Kosovars some day? How is it possible that a man who was directly elected and who has a huge responsibility does not understand that he needs to justify the responsibility before citizens?,” the DS leader concluded.
