EU ministers to discuss Serbia in June

The European Commission (EC) has recommended to European Union foreign ministers to open the talks on Serbia's EU membership.

LUXEMBOURG The European Commission (EC) has recommended to European Union foreign ministers to open the talks on Serbia's EU membership. However, the ministers did not discuss the recommendation during their session in Luxembourg on Monday. Instead, it will be tabled in June. EU ministers to discuss Serbia in June After the Monday session of the European Council in Luxembourg, officials said that in the meantime, the focus would rest on the implementation of the Belgrade-Pristina agreement. "For now, we have received only the early reactions to the report because it has just been presented and ministers did not get to consult their governments," European Council President Eamon Gilmore told a news conference in Luxembourg. "EU members will be discussing the agreement and monitoring the implementation until June. The EU will discuss reports for Serbia, Kosovo and Macedonia before we carry out any steps in June," he said. EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule expressed the expectation that the implementation of the agreement would begin soon and added that continuous support of EU member countries would be directed to the process. After the Monday session of the European Council in Luxembourg, officials said that in the meantime, the focus would rest on the implementation of the Belgrade-Priština agreement.
