BELGRADE European Parliament (EP) Rapporteur Jelko Kacin strongly believes that a start of the EU accession talks in June is an attainable goal for Serbia. His report on Serbia’s progress in the EU integration will be discussed by the EP on Wednesday, daily Politika writes. EU talks date in June is “attainable goal” Kacin drafted his thorough report in early March and it contains 79 points with assessments of a series of areas important for Serbia’s EU pathway. Politika writes that Kacin in the report encourages Serbia to continue democratic, systemic and social-economic reforms that will allow the country to assume and effectively fulfill EU membership obligations. Kacin welcomed the reopening of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue on the highest political level and the new Serbian government’s efforts. He also calls for full implementation of agreements that have been reached so far and praised meetings between Serbian and Kosovo PMs Ivica Dacic and Hashim Thaci “as a key step toward true reconciliation between Serbia and Kosovo and normalization of their relations”. Kacin stressed in the report that “ideas of partition of Kosovo or any other Western Balkan country were contrary to the spirit of the EU integration”, called for abolition of the “parallel institutions” of the state of Serbia in northern Kosovo and for withdrawal of “Serbia security services and judicial organs”.
